USE IT OR LOSE IT

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

Hello Beautiful Breathers.

The nose is a very complex and important part of our anatomy and happens to be the most efficient way to breathe. It is the humidifier, filter and thermostat for every inhale, removing unwanted particles and germs whilst adding warmth and moisture for a smoother journey into our lungs. We may feel overwhelmed, overstimulated and overworked on a daily basis keeping us in a sympathetic state of chronic stress and anxiety. By simply breathing in and out of our nose, we can move into a calmer parasympathetic state. The nose encourages us to take fuller and deeper breaths while activating the lower lungs to deliver greater levels of oxygen around our body. This will have a significant positive impact on our blood pressure, heart rate, immune system, digestive system and nervous system. Nasal breathing can also be more efficient during exercise as more oxygen can be distributed to active tissues.

I invite you to try breathing in and out of your nose. It may be challenging at first but over time and with conscious practice, it will become easier and you can change your habit to become a dedicated nose breather. Perhaps noticing your breath whenever you wash your hands, walk around the office, prepare meals, get ready for bed, wake in the morning, whilst showering or at a time that suits you to consciously breathe in and out through your nose.

I’d love to hear from you with comments, feedback or if you need any help, please email me at theartofbreath3@gmail.com.

Happy breathing. Jilly XX
